Summary: Was a pleasant stay adjacent to the Lincoln National Forest. In fact a hiking trail was less than a minute walk out the back door. Though not secluded the neighborhood was quiet and respectful, and had daily visits by the local Mule Deer. There is a small fenced-in area in the back for dogs but you may have to leash your pet if they are prone to jumping over fences to chase deer. Also, if conditions are dry then you should have no problem driving your 2WD vehicle up through the neighborhood to the cabin. If you are into hiking then there are literally dozens of hikes within 5-15 minutes drive. If visiting White Sands then you’re looking at a half-day excursion to really get into the park and walk the dunes, which is well worth it. Last tip: meal plan and hit up a legit grocery store before reaching Cloudcroft, and maybe bring your own preferred cookware if you are picky.
