Positive: Our recent stay at Brista Del Mar, managed by Vacasa, was unfortunately overshadowed by a frustrating and unprofessional experience. Despite having fully paid for our stay, Vacasa attempted to kick us out of the property. It’s important to note that Vacasa is not the owner of the properties they manage—they are a vacation rental management company that hires local staff (security, cleaners, landscapers, maintenance, etc.) remotely when needed. Their support team, however, is not based in the U.S. While on vacation, two days before our scheduled checkout, my wife asked if we could extend our stay by one more day. I was already in contact with Vacasa’s support via chat, so I asked them about extending. That’s where the problems began. First, their chat support is slow to respond, even to simple questions. Second, each response comes from a different representative, leading to inconsistent and often contradictory answers. Third, and this would almost be funny if it weren’t so ridiculous—their messages are written in broken English, which is confusing and unprofessional. You’d think they would at least use an AI tool to correct their grammar. Fourth, they often respond without actually addressing the questions asked and seem to ignore parts of the conversation entirely. And don’t expect them to reference any past phone conversations—they don’t keep any records. Here’s how my attempt to extend our stay unfolded: I first asked to extend by one night. They replied: “The total cost to add it including taxes and fees is 321.13 USD. Would you like for us to add it?” Ten minutes later, I asked about two nights. They said: “Kindly note that adding two nights will cost 464.13 USD.” Ten more minutes later, I asked for the cost of three nights. This time, they simply told me to contact Booking.com directly. I asked for clarification multiple times—probably five or more—but kept getting conflicting answers. Eventually, I called Booking.com. They told me they’d reach out to
Negative: They told me they’d reach out to the property manager (Vacasa) and get back to me. The next day, I received an email from Booking.com confirming that the property would be happy to extend our stay by one day. The email included a payment link, which I used immediately. I got confirmation from Booking.com, and our booking was updated in the system. The next morning, a cleaning crew showed up at our door telling us we had to leave. I explained that we had extended and paid for an extra night, and asked them to confirm with their management. Twenty minutes later, I got a call from Vacasa’s outsourced support (again, a new person), telling me they had no record of payment and that we needed to leave immediately. I politely asked them to check with Booking.com, since I had booked and paid through them. Twenty minutes after that, another Vacasa rep called—again with no knowledge of the situation—and told us we had to vacate the property. I even offered to send proof of payment, screenshots of the confirmation, and the email receipt—but they flat-out refused and kept demanding that we leave until we could provide proof (which I was literally offering to give them). So there we were—my wife, our three kids, and I—on what was supposed to be the last relaxing day of our vacation, being harassed and stressed by this completely unnecessary situation. It ruined our mood and caused a lot of stress. Eventually, after more time on hold and speaking to several more reps at Booking.com (who were just as unhelpful and poorly trained as Vacasa's), I was finally connected to someone who promised to figure it out and call me back. To my surprise, they did call back about 30 minutes later and confirmed that Vacasa was now aware of the extension. Vacasa never reached out to apologize or acknowledge their mistake. Instead, they just sent me a link to “review our stay.” Well—here it is.
