Positive: Room with a friendly, accomodating host family in a quiet residential street. Located within a few minutes walk of S-Bahn (train) and U-Bahn (tram) stations with services to different parts of central Cologne, each running 6 times per hour for most of the day.
Negative: The room was an attic/loft conversion reached by 3 flights of stairs, and, though fine in the centre, was less than head height at the sides. The bathroom (though for exclusive use) was on the floor below and to get to it involved walking through areas shared with the family (so no walking to the bathroom wearing just a towel !)
