Camp Scuttle Hole grew from a desire by the owners to have an off-the-grid escape! During the past 25 years items have been collected and earmarked for "camp". Repurposing has been the name of the game; all camp furnishings are from people and places we've come in contact with over the years. If something is too good to throw away, is still functional, but not necessarily something you want in your home - you take it to camp!! Built in 2010, Camp Scuttle Hole would be considered a traditional Maine Hunting Camp with a few extra touches for added comfort! Enjoy the solitude and privacy of our rustic, but comfortable and well furnished cabin situated on 300 private acres; located just minutes from Acadia National Park.
This camping experience is NOT for everyone!! Physically fit, hiking enthusiasts, who don't mind roughing it, are our perfect tenant. If you would prefer an organized campground environment - this is NOT it!! Although we are allowing instant bookings/reservations, if you are interested in the property, we strongly encourage you to reach out to us so that we can have a conversation about the property/experience prior to booking. The last thing we would want is for you to find that the experience is not what you expected.
Property has had limited wood harvesting over the past 20 years. Wood roads with paths branching off to allow for hiking/walking if desired. Hiking and walking can also be done by blazing your own trails.You can decide for yourself if you'd rather hike and explore our wooded and un-manicured acres, enjoy the groomed trails and beauty offered in Acadia National Park, or blend the two. You will need to wear rubber boots and pack-in hiking boots, clothing, toiletries, and food. You will be required to park approximately 1/3 mile from the cabin, cross a stream bed and then traverse through a rough/wet trail to gain access to the cabin.
We will provide pillows, sheets/blankets and towels. The kitchen will be stocked with basic ingredients and spices to include, but not limited to; flour, sugar, coffee, condiments, salt & pepper. Your experience can be tailored to meet your personal preferences. Upon request (for a fee), we can provide airport pick-up and transport to the site, grocery shopping, or we will entertain any special request you may have. Contact us so that we can work with you to create your best experience and provide the extra touches you'd like. Rental is from Sunday through Saturday only. For your one week stay, sixteen gallons of drinking/cooking water will be provided in gallon jugs. In addition, 25 gallons of water will be available for showering. A cooler stocked with ice blocks will be provided to keep food cold during your stay and can be replenished if necessary. The cabin offers a generator that will sufficiently operate lights, cellphone chargers (bring your own), and a small television with limited digital channels. Wifi is not available. For those who choose to not use the generator, battery operated lighting is available. Kitchen offers a full size gas cook stove and all the basic cookware, utensils and all the dishware you should need. We also offer an outdoor gas grill. A well maintained and clean privy (outhouse) is located a short distance from the camp. An outside shower with shower bags are provided. The shower bags can be left to warm in the sun each day (current photo shows the shower under construction) or shower water warming instructions using the gas stove are available in our information booklet. Seating includes a 5' table in cabin and a countertop/bar in the kitchen area that allows bar stool seating for two. We encourage minimal waste, and animal proof trash cans will be available in a strategic location to allow for trash to be deposited and picked up by the hosts. Wildlife abound in our area, so trash and food MUST NOT be left outside the cabin. Common wildlife include: deer, moose, beaver, bear, porcupines, skunks, bobcat, foxes, and other small mammals and birds (pileated woodpeckers, hawks, eagles, turkeys, owls to mention a few). This is a great area for birdwatchers.
