Summary: Purple Cottage is a poorly maintained cottage, with big gaps in doors and windows, broken floor tiles and crumbling cement on the entance steps. The dryer never worked and the airer was broken. The cooker hob and shaving socket didn't work for a week until repaired. The lights and fan in the living room worked intermittently, apparently due to a faulty breaker. The king size bed was particularly uncomfortable. We could feel the springs. All this was reported to the manager, but responses were slow and occasionally non existant. Soufriere is a beautiful area with much to do. However the town is very poor and quite dilapidated. Several times we were hassled by beggars and did not feel safe, especially after dark.
