This 1700 square-foot house nestled on stilts in a corner of the park less than 125 yards from the park beach features ocean views, lighthouse and magnificent park and sound views. You can watch the sun rise over the ocean and set over the sound from the 270° walk-around deck facing east, south and west all while bathed in the tranquility of the park’s expanse with the sound of the waves. There are deer in the yard most mornings and sometimes you see a fox. The skylights and windows let the outside into the house.
The deck winds around a screen room with windows viewing the ocean, park, lighthouse and the sound. Looking west across the Roanoke Sound you can see the lights of Wanchese, a fishing village 5 miles away on Roanoke Island. There is almost always a breeze except for a few windless days a year. Dual zone air lets you turn off the upstairs air while leaving the bedrooms air conditioning turned on and enjoy that breeze during the day.
This is the southernmost private house in South Nags Head. There are a few government owned park rangers' houses on the beach south of this house. The house is exactly 5 miles from the entrance to Hatteras Seashore National Park at MP (milepost) 22.5 and the house is the closest private house to the fishing center and deep-sea fishing as well as a boat ramp for inshore or sound fishing. There is a great outdoor shower and fish cleaning area. There is camping on the beach within 2 miles. There is 4 wheel drive access on the closest access to the beach 6 months a year (not the summer). For all 12 months months there is 4 wheel drive beach access 2 miles away at Oregon Inlet.
The nearest golf course is 7 miles away and on major highways is less than 10 minutes from the house. (The Links at Nags Head, a challenging and tight links style course on the sound with great views---my favorite). Other great courses like Kilmarlic, The Pointe, Ducks Woods, The Carolina Club and others are within 25 to 35 minutes of travel. Boats, including Hobie Cats are available for rent within 10 minutes of the house for use on the sound .
Great restaurants like “Lone Cedar” and others such as the famous “Sam and Omi’s” are within a 7-minute drive and multitudes of others are within 25 minutes of the house. Wonderful shopping is available with an 8-minute drive to The Tanger Outlet Mall. Fishing and shopping can be found on Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head. Good live music and more fishing can be found at Fishheads Bar and Grill on the Outer Banks Fishing Pier 5 minutes away at MP 18.5. There are several movie theaters within a ½ hour.
The Bodie Island Lighthouse is 1.5 miles from the house and has a museum, the Lost Colony is the longest running outdoor play in America and is less than 15 miles from the house while the Outer Banks History Center is even closer and has movies, a reconstructed settlement site, a museum, and Elizabeth II, an historic sailing ship.
The North Carolina Aquarium sits near the Lost Colony on Manteo at the Manteo airport where you can rent planes or tours.. The Wright Brothers National Memorial, site of the first powered air flight, is a museum, presentation and a tour that no one should miss. The Manteo waterfront provides a concentrated area of atmosphere, restaurants, bars and history.
The house has 1080p flat screen tv and a DVD as well as premium channels, internet, books, dishwasher, necessary utensils, coffee maker, gas barbecue on the deck and a romantic fireplace (chemical logs only). There is a washer and dryer. 4 BR’s, 3 full baths and a great outside shower. There is a fish cleaning table and room to park boats.
New 2018 mattresses in 3 bedrooms, newer mattress in master BR. 4 queen sized. Linens and bath towels (not beach towels) are optional. A website where you can order linens and house towels will be provided to you.
The standard rental week is Sunday to Sunday. I do not accept reservations for vacationing students or persons under the age of 25 unless accompanied by an adult 25 or older. The adult must stay in the house each night. NO PETS ARE ALLOWED. NO SMOKING INSIDE THE HOUSE. NO BARBEQUING INSIDE THE HOUSE OR THE SCREEN ROOM.
