About this space
The Ocean House is a magical beach-front gem with stunning ocean views, a private park-like compound, gated beach access, and architecture and design that guests say is romantic, spectacular, classy, exquisite and dreamy. It is also one of the highest rated short term rentals in the state.
Heated wood floors. High wood ceilings. Roaring surf out every window. Miles of beach out the back door and down an enchanting, forested stairway.
*Level 2 EV charger/240W outlet
The Ocean House is near the Olympic Nat'l Park, Lake Quinault, Damon Point, North Jetty, Beaches 1 - 4, Ruby Beach, Seabrook, and Ocean Shores.
SPACIOUS AND PRIVATE. Guests have the entire house to themselves - all three amazing floors - and a uniquely beautiful and peaceful 4.5-acre forest-to-dunes compound packed with flora and fauna. The property stretches from coastal highway 109, down the most deluxe stairway on the Washintgon coast, through a private beach access gate, and across grassy dunes and soft sand to the median high tide line.
DESTINATION LOCATION. Travelers from the world over trek to the Ocean House for its romantic style and views, and its mix of ocean beach fun, rainforest tranquility, and backcountry adventures in nearby Olympic National Park. Located in the historic town of Moclips, the Ocean House is just minutes from the towns of Pacific Beach, Seabrook, and Oceans Shores.
GUEST ACCOLADES. Guest accolades and superlatives in our 300+ reviews are consistent - "spectacular," "magical," "classy," "exquisite," "dreamy," "beautiful," "splendid," "the best," "our favorite Airbnb ever," "top-notch," "gold standard," "fantastic gem," "thoughtfully designed," welcoming," "comfortable, "gorgeous," "quiet," "calming," "a jewel," "turnkey," "super clean," "well-stocked," "perfect," "excellent," "private," etc.
BEDS AND BATHS. The Ocean House has five exceptionally fresh, clean, and comfortable beds: a king, three queens, and a double. There are stylish bathrooms on all three floors.
TOP FLOOR. The top floor is one of the most romantic and relaxing rooms anywhere, showcasing the Ocean House's exceptional architecture. The 17' high timber-framed wood ceiling of Fir and reclaimed cedar is magical in the light of six dimmable custom art glass fixtures. A classic Mission California king bed and a deluxe iron frame double bed both offer world-class ocean and forest views. Work and take calls/videoconferences at a spacious desk, or relax over coffee or a glass of wine at a small table with two comfy barrel chairs overlooking the ocean and forest.
LOWER FLOOR. Like the other two floors, the lower floor has beautiful heated Douglas fir floors and high, timbered ceilings of fir and cedar. The lower floor also has two queen-size, all-wood Murphy beds, romantic art glass lighting, wonderful forest views, a steam shower, a television, a well-stocked game closet, and a washer and drier. A door separates the main floor and the lower floor.
MAIN FLOOR. The main floor has a fully equipped kitchen, large dining table, leather couch, leather club chair, deluxe queen-size all-wood Murphy bed, Internet-enabled television, and an excellent stereo - bring your music player and any adapter necessary to connect to a mini-jack. Note, the main floor bed is in a common area and has no sound separation from the top floor, due to an open stairway design, limiting its usefulness for many groups.
KITCHEN. The kitchen includes staples like a microwave, electric teapot, toaster, coffee grinder, and a French press, as well as some nice extras like a deluxe double-sided commercial waffle iron, a panini press, large crockpot, a Nespresso espresso machine (and coffee pods aplenty), and a Nespresso milk frother. Guests also have full access to a gas BBQ on the back deck overlooking the ocean. The refrigerator is kept relatively empty for guest use.
SHOPPING/EATING. The Ocean House is close to restaurants, coffee shops, bars, and stores in Pacific Beach, Seabrook, and Ocean Shores. The deluxe Ocean Crest Restaurant is four driveways north, walkable by beach or highway. The Olympic National Park is just 35 minutes away, via the scenic Moclips Highway.
GUIDEBOOK. Our 30-page Guidebook includes numerous unique beaches up and down the coast, plus all of the local restaurants, shops, bars, museums, recreational opportunities, and must-see sights, as well as 20+ hikes.

IMPECCABLE DESIGN AND CRAFTSMANSHIP. Designed by BJSS Duarte Bryant and Cascade Joinery, the Ocean House at Moclips Beach is a rugged yet cozy timber frame featuring 208 masterfully connected Douglas fir beams. The grand post and beam joinery is complemented by warm Douglas fir floors, captivating high ceilings of Port Orford cedar and reclaimed western red cedar, and a beautiful burnt-sienna faux interior paint scheme by Olympia artist, Annie Mathwig.
FABULOUS ART. In addition to numerous artworks by local artists, twenty-three colorful art glass fixtures accentuate the natural beauty of the Ocean House and its environment, all custom-designed and created for the Ocean House by Seattle artist James M. Curtis III.
BEACH STAIRS. The property is laced with delightful rainforest trails and features several stunning viewpoints, as well as a magnificent 185-step stairway leading through weather-sculpted spruce and alders to a private beach entrance.
REMOTE WORK. The Ocean House is very well equipped for remote work and education.
MEMORIES BY THE FIRE. Guests often say they created lasting memories visiting and relaxing by fires in the outdoor timbered Shelter. The indoor fireplace is off-limits for insurance reasons, but the super-efficient Rumford fireplace in the Shelter is yours to enjoy for s'mores, roasting hot dogs, or just sharing the incredible views and a beverage or two with friends and family. Your first fire will be set up and ready for you to light. You'll find plenty of firewood stacked conveniently in the Shelter, plus a fully loaded wheelbarrow ready to roll out to the Shelter from one of our two well-stocked woodsheds.
THE SHELTER AND PARK. The Shelter is a timbered structure built in the style of a Federal park shelter with a stone fireplace. It looks out over the ocean from a large cleared area we call the Park. The Park is great for tossing one of our many frisbees and other flying disks. We also have footballs, baseballs and gloves, a volleyball net, and a badminton net.
TRAILS/VIEWPOINTS. There are 2,000 feet of winding, mossy rainforest trails on the property - Matthew's Trail, Stephanie's Trail, the Bluff Trail, the Park Trail, the Shelter Trail, the Shed Trail, and Guido's Trail.
The trails lead to three dramatic bluff viewpoints overlooking the Pacific, take you among dizzyingly tall Sitka spruce and cedar trees, and cut through dense coastal undergrowth, primarily ferns and salal and huckleberry bushes. They provide endless safe exploration and adventure for kids and a surprisingly therapeutic escape for adults. Tip - make yourself a latte and start your morning by walking the entire trail network.
COVERED DECK. A sliding French door on the main level leads to a covered deck with beautiful ocean views framed through a Sitka Spruce forest. At night, backyard trail lights illuminate haunting deformations in the forest canopy recording a century of lashing winter storms and gale-force winds.
BOATHOUSE DECK. The large Boathouse Deck at the bottom of the beach stairs offers a perfect, up-close view of the ocean and is generally warmer than the rest of the property and downright balmy on a sunny day. The Boathouse interior is off-limits to guests, but the Boathouse deck is always available.
4 MILES OF BEACH. Our forest stretches from the coastal highway to the sandy, grassy dunes of Moclips Beach. You can walk almost two miles in either direction from our private beach gate.
JOE CREEK. Go left to the south on the beach as far as Joe Creek, get a latte in Pacific Beach, and visit the Pacific Beach State Park.
MOCLIPS RIVER. Head north up the beach to the beautiful Moclips River and visit the heart of historic Moclips, where trains once brought tourists by the thousands, particularly between 1905 and 1914.
HISTORIC MOCLIPS HOTEL. At that time, Moclips boasted the largest and fanciest hotel on the entire Pacific Coast. The swanky Moclips Hotel, built in 1905, was first destroyed by fire. It was rebuilt larger and closer to the ocean, only to be destroyed again by historic storms and storm surges between 1911 and 1914. Picturesque trestle pilings stand in and around the Moclips River - timeless reminders of the town's boom era a century ago.
RAILROAD. The Boathouse deck railings' train trestle design is a nod to the Boathouse's location atop the historic railroad grade. The tracks were active into the 1970s. Boulders from the original railroad grade are visible on the west side of the Boathouse. The Boathouse's architecture, metalwork, and dark stain suggest a railroad shed or maintenance building. It is built from old-growth wood from locally salvaged trees that fell decades ago. The Boathouse has a timbered interior and is designed to withstand 250 MPH winds.
WINDS. Caution - stay out of the forest in windy conditions, as branches may fall from very high and can cause serious injury.
ANIMALS. Many types of animals pass through our forest and some even call it home. We most commonly see squirrels, chipmunks, bunnies, deer, garter snakes, salamanders, weasels, and an astounding variety of birds, including eagles, hawks, falcons, countless songbirds, and owls. A local coyote passes through frequently in the late and early hours, and a medium-sized Black Bear visited the property several times many months ago.
