We love to walk to the beach for sunset every evening.

Summary: The location is secluded and usually very quiet. The nearby beach is beautiful and the house is ok. The main issue we had was that the rental does not have backup power for power outages. We had to end our vacation early due to an extended power outage. We tried to tough it out, but the purpose of the vacation was to relax and living without power quickly becomes stressful. Both vrbo rentals on either side of the house and the one across the street all have backup power generators. This is a safety issue especially in Carmel where there is at least one power outage a year. There was also not enough emergency lighting for the size of the house, and although the fireplace worked it did not put out any heat. Another issue was that the upstairs bedroom is a loft-style room. There is no privacy and because there are no shades on any of the bedroom windows, skylight, or living/dining room windows, the bedroom gets bright very early in the morning. I’ve stayed in many rentals in Carmel and while the neighborhood is very nice, this house was overpriced for its condition and amenities. We also ended up having to pay full taxes and fees for our stay, and half of the total rental fee even though we stayed 4 nights out of 11. I wouldn’t recommend this house in its current condition or the host.
