Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: Super friendly host on arrival and throughout the stay. Very accommodating. She showed us around the apartment and talked us through the area, which was really helpful. Parking was easy and there was plenty of it, so we could quickly pop out to places like Asda or Costco to grab bits for the fridge without any hassle. The location is great. We walked to Portobello Beach which was pretty close and lovely. We didn’t go into the city centre as we weren’t there for sightseeing, but it looked very straightforward, with a bus stop just down the road and plenty of buses passsing. The apartment had pretty much everything we needed and would work well for a longer stay too. If it hadn’t been for the shower situation, I would happily book this again because everything else was really good.

Negative: This is for the side apartment with garden view. I try to write honest reviews as I travel a lot and rely heavily on them myself, so I share the kind of things I’d want to know. Consider this an FYI list. There was one main thing that impacted my score quite a bit. Otherwise, I would have given this an 8. The shower is very small. I’m curvier, but my husband is of average height and slim and he also found it really tight. There are no shelves or anywhere to put toiletries, so you literally had to turn off the shower and open the door, if you needed to pick something up. I had intended to wash my hair but I didn't even bother trying, as the water pressure was also really weak. If you are very tall (or very wide) this is not the shower for you. If I had been there for work or a significant event, I would have been in a pickle. At first I thought there was no hot water, but it just takes a while to come through. The bathroom sink tap is also reversed (hot/cold), so it took a bit of figuring out. And be sure to give an accurate arrival time and update, if you are running super early or late.
